Barge Services

MBLX, LLC.?has been providing barge and river logistics solutions to companies of all sizes since 1983. Getting your goods to their destination on time and on budget is a key factor to keeping you competitive in the marketplace. Now part of Livingston, MBLX can make that happen.

Due to the load capacity of a barge and the reduced emissions for each ton of cargo, waterway transportation is one of the most economical and environmentally-friendly means of commercial freight transportation. Our comprehensive barge transportation solutions allow for cost-effective transport of bulk and container cargoes through the U.S.’s inland waterways.

Through MBLX, we offer our clients the following barge freight services:

  • Barge freight
  • Stevedoring
  • Warehousing
  • Customs clearance
  • Cargo insurance
  • Inland river transloading

Barge Freight

MBLX’s extensive network allows access to over 30 key ports along U.S. inland waterways; ensuring your cargo gets from origin to destination safely and securely from New Orleans to major inland industrial ports like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago, St. Louis Nashville and many others. We’re exactly where you, your partners and your customers need us to be. We provide customized shipping solutions, including less-than-bargeload service, project cargoes and 24/7 tracking. Regardless of size or complexity, we leverage the experience of our MBLX professionals and established network of river logistics contacts to develop custom solutions for your specific barge and shipment needs.

Less-than-bargeload solution allows shippers to avoid paying for the entire barge by consolidating several types of cargo in parcels of less than 1,400 tons. Our clients take advantage of this service when shipping items such as:

  • Steel coils, plates, billets, pipes, super bags, ingots
  • Crated material
  • Other ferrous and non-ferrous metal products

Project cargo

The transportation of heavy and over-dimensional equipment involves detailed planning and careful consideration of complex requirements. We offer our clients comprehensive project management and an extensive network to ensure that your shipment reaches its destination on time and on budget.

Examples of project cargo moves we’ve completed for our clients include:

  • Earth moving and mining equipment
  • Transport vehicles
  • Cranes
  • Oil exploration machinery
  • Excavators
  • Wheel loaders
  • Graders
  • Steel plates

Continuous tracking and tracing coverage

We provide continuous operational support and oversight while monitoring the shipments and keeping our barge freight clients informed about their cargo. Our clients are always aware of the progress of their shipments, and we provide regular progress updates in the event of unforeseen delays.

We work closely with our stevedoring partners to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of your cargo. Our focus is to ensure that your shipments arrive at their destination problem-free and on time. We tailor our stevedoring services to integrate seamlessly into your supply chain. Our extensive network offers stevedoring management, container storage loading and offloading and offers coverage in New Orleans and other major U.S. ports.

We work closely with our transloading partners in the warehouse, truck and rail industries to find efficiencies, reduce your costs and ensure the safe and efficient unloading of your cargo. Livingston will seamlessly manage your bulk, breakbulk or project cargo from barge to warehouse, truck or rail car. No matter how specialized or complex, our operations team and transloading network will get it done.

There are high cost-savings associated with shipping containers that are stripped and loaded directly into barges with final destination to an inland port. We can successfully strip heavy loaded containers and load the cargo into barges, which can involve bulk or bagged cargo. By loading the containers up to 28 metric tons, you can save up to 40 percent on your ocean freight, as they are priced on a flat charge per container basis.
